Ok I am finally ready for an update about this past weekend. Well, the weekend before last, I suppose. I keep forgetting it's already Monday. Spring Break is officially over. It was my last Spring Break-- ever. Weird. Life just keeps chugging along, doesn't it? I'm not complaining, mind you, it just constantly takes me by surprise. Time goes especially fast when we're having fun and particularly slowly when things are hard or boring. Which brings me to the cruise. It went by super fast, which of course means it was a lot of fun.
Basically, Nat and I just hung out and danced the whole weekend. Two hours after boarding the ship we had to do this boat drill thing and find our "Muster station," which is where everyone is to report in the unlikely occurance of an ice burg or some such nonsense (we were in the Pacific near Mexico, nothing was going to happen). Everyone who attended, including the people running it knew it was complete crap, but we had to do it anyway. While there, we met two guys, Chon and Ryan, who were part of a larger party of guys on the cruise for a bachelor party. They invited us to come hang out with them before dinner, promising us all the free drinks we could handle. We were so there. It ended up being a blast and the group sort of adopted us. We spent the next two nights on the ship with them, living it up, singing and dancing. It was great.
All around good times were had by all, I can say with confidence. One thing I learned about cruises is that if you are a woman, it will drastically boost your self esteem. I have never had so many people tell me I am beautiful, and granted they may have been drunk, but still. That never happens to me. Plus, I only had to buy maybe two of my own drinks the entire time, which was great. I got to dance a lot, which was great. Not swing dancing, really, but at least it was someting. I got lifted and tossed around a bit, which for me is rare, considering my height. It was another bit of self esteem boost.
Nat made friends with a guy named Blake, who is such a sweetheart. He's come to campus twice to hang out. This past weekend, I drove down to Laguna to visit a friend that I met on the cruise named Chris, but who we can Cowboy Hat Guy, which is pretty self explanatory, I think. I love Laguna Beach and I am glad to have made a new friend there so I have an excuse to go more often. It's just so different from Claremont or Bakersfield, yet it is not a far drive from Claremont. Besides, I have fond memories of it since I spent a week there this past summer with my parents. It was the first vacation my parents and I had taken in a long time, and earlier that year it was looking as if we would never have another vacation with the whole family. So walking around those same streets brought back nostalgic and positive feelings.
Anyway, thesis has come to a standstill. I'm sure everyone is sick to death of hearing about it, but don't worry-- it is due in 31 days. I am starting a countdown (for myself). In just over a month, it will be over FOREVER, for better or worse, I suppose. I had these grandiose plans of getting a lot of work done during break, but it just didn't happen. Instead, I rented the first season of Grey's Anatomy and watched the whole thing in a day. At least I didn't get sucked into Lost, like Natalie. I know I could get sucked into that show, so I won't let myself watch it until I finish thesis. I might even reward myself by buying it on DVD or something.
Okay, I really need to get going and try to get something, anything, done on my thesis. Wish me luck!

I've decided the same thing for Lost. I almost got pulled down, but thankfully, the computer didn't cooperate, and wouldn't copy the dvds that Rob let me borrow for a day. I know it would be exactly like Alias, where I watched an entire season in about a day and a half. But I'm being good with Firefly - I only watched on disk in a day.
